Why Summit

Consignment assembly built for programs that can't afford delays.

Summit’s consignment program is built around one principle: your components, our responsibility. From the moment your kit arrives at our dock to finished boards shipping, our team owns the process —
proactively catching issues, communicating fast, and keeping your schedule intact.

Best Practice

Six ways to keep your order off hold.

  • 01

    Send Component
    Overages

Normal handling and placement attrition requires small overages, especially for passives and small SMT parts. Receiving exact
component quantities is a leading cause of holds.

    Best Practice

Include standard overages so minor loss during handling does not stop your assembly order.

  • 02

    Clearly Identify Substitute
    Parts

When substitute parts are included but not documented, the parts in the kit do not match the Bill of Materials. This mismatch
triggers a hold while engineering verifies the change.

    Best Practice

Clearly label and document all substitutions included in the consignment kit before shipping.

  • 03

    Package Moisture-Sensitive
    Devices Properly

Loose parts, opened packaging, or missing labels prevent the assembler from verifying floor life and storage history — creating
risk and often resulting in delays or pre-baking requirements.

    Best Practice

Ship MSD components sealed, labeled, and in original manufacturer packaging whenever possible.

  • 04

    Use Labeling That Matches
    the BOM

Components often arrive with three different labels: the customer’s internal part number, the manufacturer’s label, and the assembly reference designator. Misalignment causes receiving holds.

    Best Practice

Label parts to match the BOM and use the kit labels provided by the assembler.

  • 05

    Don’t Combine Multiple Jobs
    Into One Kit

Mixing parts and boards for multiple projects into a single box significantly increases receiving time and the risk of misplaced
components — a frequent cause of holds.

    Best Practice

Ship separate, clearly labeled consignment kits for each individual assembly job.

  • 06

    Respond Quickly to Receiving
    Questions

When questions arise during incoming inspection, consignment assembly cannot begin until clarification is received. Response time directly affects your schedule.

    Best Practice

Assign a point of contact to respond quickly to any questions related to the consignment kit.
